Walker Dunaway Ms. Lehmann English 1-1A 20 March 2019 Walker’s Opinion
My opinion of the play As You Like It by William Shakespeare, performed by the company Shakespearience is positive. I liked the play because of the interpretation, music and sound effects, and the set and props.
I liked the interpretation. They set the play in the 1980’s so it could be more modernized, which means that the audience can have funny and sillier moments but then you can also have more serious moments. My reasoning behind this is that when it was acted in the 1600’s, it would be harder to understand what the characters were saying, making it harder to understand what the play is about. When they acted the play in the 1980’s, the audience is able to understand what the actor is saying, making it easier to understand what the play is about.
My attention was also drawn to the music and sound effects. Whenever the scene changed the music would start so the actors could get ready for what they were about to perform to the audience. I found it humorous when a character would fall in love with another character; the sound of love would start to play. I think that the best sound effects were when they would fight and one of the other characters would make the sound. It was so good because it sounded so real, and it definitely had me fooled.
The last thing that I really enjoyed about the play was the set and props. When they had a scene where two or more characters were singing or dancing, there would be what looked like big speakers that could be changed from a speaker to a grass hill or a tree. I thought that that was cool that the director was able to put more than one item on one box. When the play was in action, the other characters would act as props and other obstacles.
I think that the play was absolutely amazing, and I would most definitely want to watch it again because it was interesting and it really grabbed my attention. I liked the play because of the interpretation, music and sound effects, and the set and props.
